- Order of the Volta, Republic of Ghana,
2008
Dr. Gobind Nankani was conferred with the Order
of the Volta, a Ghanaian national award on July 3rd, 2008. The
presentation was made by the President of Ghana, His Excellency
John A. Kufuor.
Dr. Nankani was cited for his contributions to Ghana's and Africa's
development, particularly in his role as Vice President for Africa
at the World Bank, 2004-2006, and his contributions over the years
to the promotion of social development policy and financing.
President Kufuor presented awards to distinguished
personalities, including foreign nationals. Dr. Gobind Nankani
is a Ghanaian national. Speaking at this year's National Honours
Awards in Accra on the theme: "Branding Ghana for a Prosperous
Future," President Kufuor said we have sought to honour a
cross section of the society who in the course of their work have
made exceptional contributions to the development of the nation.
Today's function is to urge them on to greater service to the
nation and encourage others to follow their example.
These awards were instituted by the nation's
first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, when Ghana attained Republic
status on 1st July, 1960.
