  • Order of the Volta, Republic of Ghana, 2008

Dr. Gobind Nankani was conferred with the Order of the Volta, a Ghanaian national award on July 3rd, 2008. The presentation was made by the President of Ghana, His Excellency John A. Kufuor.

Dr. Nankani was cited for his contributions to Ghana's and Africa's development, particularly in his role as Vice President for Africa at the World Bank, 2004-2006, and his contributions over the years to the promotion of social development policy and financing.

President Kufuor presented awards to distinguished personalities, including foreign nationals. Dr. Gobind Nankani is a Ghanaian national. Speaking at this year's National Honours Awards in Accra on the theme: "Branding Ghana for a Prosperous Future," President Kufuor said we have sought to honour a cross section of the society who in the course of their work have made exceptional contributions to the development of the nation. Today's function is to urge them on to greater service to the nation and encourage others to follow their example.

These awards were instituted by the nation's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, when Ghana attained Republic status on 1st July, 1960.
